If you are looking for ways to know How to Clean Light Colored Leather Shoes then you should checkout our guide for the same!

You have your closet full of pumpsboots, and sneakers as you had always desired, made of leather because they aren’t just beautiful and presentable but also very durable.

When these leather shoes are of dark color, the stains could be ignored for not being very apparent, but when it’s some light-colored leather shoes, the stain could be a problem and must be treated so that it doesn’t affect the shoe in any way.

Having some proper and necessary knowledge on how to get your leather shoes back to their previous and spotless condition by cleaning them in such a manner will keep your leather footwear’s look not just pristine.

Still, such care would also preserve the leather of the shoe for years. Below are the simple and easy steps you need to follow.

Step 1: Pull out laces (for shoes with laces).

If the laces are stained, wash them in the basin through running water or change them.

Step 2: Clean rickety dirt and wreckage.

Leather shoe’s surface could have dirt stuck to it, so get a soft piece of cloth or a brush to remove any of that.

Step 3: Apply detergent.

Take some dish detergent, mix it in warm water, take a soft piece cloth, dip it into the mixture, wring it out, and polish the shoe’s outer surface.

Step 4: Wipe the detergent off of it.

Get a second cloth, which has to be clean and damp, then wipe the soap off the shoe—dry using a towel. Soapy and warm water will also remove scuffs and watermarks.

Step 5: Treat the leather.

The leather conditioner could be bought from the market, or you can either prepare it at home by mixing 1 part vinegar to 2 parts linseed oil.

Once you have it, apply it on the leather, it will protect the leather from stains and give it a shine. When you apply it on the leather, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, polish it, and buff using a soft cloth until it.

Step 6: Dry the leather

Take your shoes and boots in the open air after treating them and take care that there is no heat or sunlight at that place because heat can be the one to cause the leather to fade or crack.

Different Ways to Remove Different Stains

Grease or Oil

Use baking soda or the cornstarch and sprinkle it on the spot. Rub the powder with a damp cloth gently. Leave it for a few hours. Overnight the powder will absorb the oil. Use a soft cloth to remove the powder.

Ink

Take a cotton swab and dip it in nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol and lightly bloat the stain with it. Do it very lightly, or you could spread the ink. Then clean using a damp cloth and dry with a towel.

Scuffs

For the scratches, you can use toothpaste. Spurt some non-gel sort on the area that’s scuffed. Polish it with a soft cloth.

Other Stains

Make a paste of lemon juice mixed with an equal amount of tartar cream. Mix equal parts of lemon juice and cream of tartar into a paste. Apply the mixture on the stained part of the shoe and let it sit for 30-40 minutes.

After that, remove the paste using a damp cloth. Lemon juice and tartar cream have an acidic and bleaching effect, limiting its use to light-coloured leather shoes only (it could fade a dark leather’s colour).
