AIRism technology: the clothes that free you from sweat

It is clear that when summer arrives, we all try to wear clothes that are more fresh, although sometimes it is impossible to prevent us from ending up sweating, so fashion firms work and strive to achieve with their fabrics that we avoid precisely this problem, something that seems to have finally been achieved with AIRism technology: clothing that frees you from sweat.

The history of the UNIQLO brand

Uniqlo has surprised everyone by presenting AIRism, a new technology for its fabrics capable of avoiding sweat and although the firm has managed to grab the headlines in half the world, the truth is that it has been some time since this Japanese brand burst onto the market with its daring, modern and, above all, surprising designs.

The Japanese brand has 1,989 stores in 19 different markets including fashion world capitals such as London, New York, Paris or Italy thanks to the vision of its manager, Tadashi Yanai, the richest man in Japan and president and CEO of Fast Retailing, the fourth largest clothing company in the world, which in addition to Uniqlo, has Helmut Lang, J Brand, Theory, Comptoir des Cotonniers and princess tam.tam.

It is in the mid-80s when after finishing his university studies in Tokyo, Yanai returns home to Ube, to become general manager of the family clothing store.

The young Yanai soon realizes that his customers’ tastes are changing irreversibly: instead of continuing to offer men’s suits, he opens a larger store in Hiroshima, Unique Clothing Warehouse, which focuses on casual wear. at affordable prices. When the trademark is registered in Hong Kong, with an abbreviated name, they make a mistake and put a “q” instead of “c”. Yanai certainly doesn’t bother to correct it, as in his opinion the mistake made it look “cooler” and Uniqlo was born.

The brand grew in Japan during the 90s, a time when its creator also founded Fast Retailing in order to compete with the American market, and began to spread to other countries.

In 2001, Uniqlo already has 500 outlets in Japan alone and opened 21 stores in British suburbs and 3 in New Jersey shopping malls. Despite the expansion, the brand has not just taken off beyond Japan. But 2006 arrives and after several attempts, Uniqlo launches HeatTech, a line of clothing for men and women, which captures heat, is breathable, quick-drying and anti-odour, designed to keep the wearer warm even in the coldest months. The reception is more than favorable: you can finally wear fashionable clothes even in winter, without necessarily resorting to unsightly (and uncomfortable) layering.

Later, from the collaboration between Toray, the company that develops HeaTech, and Uniqlo now comes AIRism, a breathable intermediate fabric that releases heat and moisture so that it is capable of getting rid of sweat.

AIRism technology

Thanks to AIRism, Uniqlo is able to launch fashion that is current, but also guarantees that we will feel fresh throughout the day. It is not that AIRism provides us with “extra” air inside the clothes, (which would not be bad), but rather that it makes the fabric more breathable and we can expel all the heat and humidity accumulated throughout the day.

The firm also launches a collection that is most complete. In the case of the AIRism line for men, we find proposals for polo shirts and shirts, pants and even suits that have this technology capable of neutralizing odors, completely absorbing our sweat, and making us feel that we are wearing fresh and dry clothes throughout the day. .

The fabrics used in AIRism technology are made up of several layers, which make them more breathable. In this way, the sweat is trapped between these layers and the fabric is able to eliminate it thanks to a technique that allows us to perspire more than usual.

When talking about layers we can think of thick and uncomfortable fabrics, but that’s what’s amazing about AIRism; each and every one of the layers that make up the garments in the Uniqlo line are extra-thin, ultra-elastic and also unrestricted, so they do not break, and guarantee that we will feel comfortable all day.

In fact, when you pick up, for example, one of the t-shirts that are part of the AIRism collection, you will realize how little it weighs and that its touch is similar to a mixture of fiber and silk, which makes it soft and light . On the other hand, AIRism also ensures that clothes dry faster. Thanks to the aforementioned layers, each garment is capable of drying three times faster if we compare it, for example, with the time it usually takes for a cotton T-shirt.

AIRism Male Proposals

Once we have explained to you what this AIRism technology consists of, we can show you some other proposal so that you can also see that Uniqlo has not skimped, when it comes to trying to surprise us with the design as well.

In this way, the brand proposes, for example, polo shirts like the one you see in the image below, which are designed for everyday use or for special occasions. A polo shirt that guarantees that we can stay fresh throughout the day, whether you have a long work day or enjoy a full day of vacation.

Another of the polo shirts that Uniqlo proposes with this technology is this model that we see in the image, which shows off a light pattern. Functionality and design at our service.

We also find basic t-shirts with this technology, ideal for any occasion. A shirt that is also presented in white, a tone that many would not wear in summer precisely because of the sweat. Thanks to AIRism, you can wear this type of shirt all day, without stains or odors.
